On Wednesday, December 14th at 6pm, members of the Douglas County Fire Fighters will be shopping with local students from within Douglas County. This is their 5th year for this program.
The Douglas County Firefighters partner with Target and a couple of local community businesses and local schools to organize the Heroes and Helpers shopping event. This year the holiday gift program has selecting 16 students from 10 schools (K-5) within Douglas County. The students are selected by their school staff and School Resource Officer. The decision is influenced by the students we believe would truly appreciate the extra cheer for the Holidays that have had some sort of hardship with their home life, a health issue, a family of lower income, or have fallen on hard times.
Santa and Mrs. Claus greet the kids then Target employees and Fire Fighters will assist the kids with Christmas shopping at our local Target store followed by volunteers wrapping the gifts for the kids, After shopping, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be able to visit with the kids, Jimmy John’s is donating subs and Target is suppling beverages.
