The family of a boy thrown from the Mall of America Balcony reached a settlement with the mall. They claimed that the 5 year old
boy’s medical bills were over $1.75 million.
An unknown number was settled on, in addition to changes to the mall’s trespass policies to limit the entrance of “violent criminals”. The incident occurred in 2019, where a suspicious stranger picked up the 5 year old boy and threw him over the third floor railing. He survived the 40 foot drop with extensive injuries. The attacker, Emmanuel Aranda, age 24, was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
