Police responded to the shooting around 7 a.m. Monday outside Dubow Textile and found a woman who had been shot laying on the ground next to her vehicle. Officers attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful and she died at the scene. Police reportedly found Hammond lying near in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the neck.  Carpenter was arrested several hours later at an apartment in Sauk Rapids.

Hammond’s phone revealed numerous text messages between her and Carpenter from the previous night indicating the she did not want to be touched or manipulated by Carpenter. In speaking with several of Carpenter’s co-workers, officers learned Carpenter made numerous advances towards Hammond over the past month, according to court documents.
