Shortage of Accountants as More File Ahead of the Tax Deadline

Tax accountants are in short supply as Minnesotans file ahead of April 18th deadline. Experts say this is a ripple effect since the pandemic, more are choosing a different career path. Numbers from the U.S. government show more than 300,000 accountants and auditors quit their jobs over the last two years, . 

Filing an extension is an option if you are unable to meet the deadline.

According to the IRS they warn to please be aware that:

  • An extension of time to file your return does not grant you any extension of time to pay your taxes.
  • You should estimate and pay any owed taxes by your regular deadline to help avoid possible penalties.
  • You must file your extension request no later than the regular due date of your return.
